Passive House Shades for Los Angeles

Posted by Greg Amato on Wed, Jan 18, 2017 @ 07:05 PM

The Passive House Shades is designed to achieve maximum solar heat gain by orienting its largest windows with southern exposure with the intent of providing at least 50% of the building’s heating demand. While this works well in the winter months when the low angled sun radiates heat into the space, this solar radiation becomes excessive during the summer months and needs to be shades. Bay Screens provides Passive House Exterior and Interior Shades for the Los Angeles area.

Exterior Shades for The Passive House
The most effective way to prevent too much solar heat gain from entering through the windows is with exterior window shades. Exterior window shades are an excellent solution because of its superior performance in reducing solar heat gain. The graphic below tells it all. A space with no shades allows 80% solar heat gain to enter a space. An interior shading solution offers better results blocking over 50% of the solar heat gain. However, for maximum results nothing beats an exterior window shade, which blocks over 85% of solar heat gain which you can see from the diagram below.

We are excited to announce the availability of our Cable Guided Exterior Shades operated with Lutron Motors. One of the biggest reasons why exterior shades are becoming so popular in the states (they have been used in Europe for over 20 years) is the systems ability to block out the sun of a home or business before it enters the room. This is the most effective way in reducing heat gain for any project. With our Cable Exterior Solar Shades, just roll them down when you need heat protection and roll up when you want to enjoy your view.

Below you will find all additional information on our Cable Guide Shading Systems all operated with Lutron motors, or contact us today for pricing and specifications.
